SolDesal engineered a way that uses sunlight as the fuel to heat seawater, which is then turned into freshwater steam. This runs through a steam turbine to generate electricity. The steam is then recondensed as stored as fresh potable, pre-treated drinking water. Waste brine from the process is then crystalised into solar salt. 

SDS isn’t so much about being green, it’s about economics, but acknowledging the needs of people and industry.

SDS makes economic sense, but it’s also nice that it also makes environmental sense. SDS shows that baseload power from renewables is not only possible, it’s possible now, and in the process, you get two plants for the price of one, without waste.
